The 2290 vehicle tax is imposed on any vehicle weighing 55,000 pounds or more. The heavy vehicle
usage tax is collected annually and is used to build and maintain government roads in the United
States. Therefore, every truck owner has to pay the truck tax.

Ways to Pay HVUT
There are 2 ways of filing tax 2290
IRS suggests that truckers file online HVUT ( heavy highway use tax ) as it is simpler to file,
safer and quicker than the offline filing of express truck tax. Additionally, when you pay
HVUT 2290 offline, you need to send your simple truck tax to the IRS office manually, where
you have to make an appointment with the IRS office and wait in the queue to pay HVUT 2290
( heavy highway use tax).
Schedule 1 Form 2290
When filing your IRS 2290 online via express filing, you will get your stamped Schedule 1
copy within 15 minutes of IRS acceptance, but in case of paper filing, this will take
about 5-45 days to receive your stamped copy.
Calculating IRS Taxable Gross Weight
Any heavy vehicle or truck weighing 55,000 pounds or more is subjected to the HVUT 2290 online.
These trucks must be registered with the IRS and must pay HVUT ( heavy highway use tax ) online.
The tax amount of your heavy vehicle use tax is also based on your vehicle’s gross weight.
Payment of Form 2290 Online
The HVUT ( heavy highway use tax ) tax applies to any truck or heavy vehicle that weighs
55,000 pounds or more and is used for 5,000 or more miles. You can pay for HVUT 2290 by
the IRS office. If you choose to file IRS vehicle tax online, you can choose to pay via
by credit or debit card, EFW or EFTPS.
